Sowers, Sims Named USILA All-Americas
May 24, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
Michael Sowers, the Division I leader in points per game and assists per game by a wide margin, was named a second-team USILA All-America. Austin Sims, who had a career year as a midfielder for Princeton, was a third-team selection.
Both were named first-team All-Ivy League earlier this year.
Sowers, a third-team All-America a year ago, leads Division I with 6.38 points per game and assists per game at 4.31. Justin Guterding of Duke, who is second in Division I in points per game, would need 18 in the Blue Devils' semifinal game against Maryland to catch Sowers for first.
Sowers finished his sophomore season with Princeton records of 56 assists and 83 points, and his 83 points were one better than the record he set a year ago as a freshman. He also had at least six points in eight games and at least eight points six times.
Through two seasons, he has 165 points on 68 goals and 97 assists, and he is already 10th all-time in points and fifth all-time in assists at Princeton. He is on pace to be Princeton's career leader in both.
Sims had career bests with 32 goals and 16 assists for 48 points as a midfielder who played on all three lines. He finished his career with 111 points (82G, 29A), despite having no goals and two assists his freshman year, when he played defensive midfield.
Sims was the 20th pick in the Major League Lacrosse draft, and he has one goal in each of his first two professional games with the Atlanta Blaze.
Sims will also compete Friday night in the USILA North-South game, along with four-year starting goalie Tyler Blaisdell.
