Tigers Open California Trip With Impressive Win At UCSD
January 29, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Parker Dixon continued the terrific start to his junior season Tuesday night with 25 kills, six digs and a .447 hitting percentage Tuesday night in a 3-1 comeback win over UC-San Diego in the first of three California matches this week.
The win was Princeton's second in a row, and it will lead them into Thursday night's showdown at USC with some added momentum. It also showed impressive resilience from the Tigers, who dropped a tough opening set and came back to dominate the remainder of the match.
While Dixon carried the majority of the offensive load, he wasn't the only one who powered an efficient offense over the final three sets. Senior Kendall Ratter had 10 kills in his season debut, while George Huhmann added eight kills, four blocks and four digs. Junior Greg Luck had 10 digs, five kills and an impressive five service aces, while sophomore Joe Kelly paced the offense with 45 assists.
Princeton dominated the middle two sets, including a 25-14 third set that saw the Tigers hit .550 overall. UCSD had one late run in it to close the fourth set, but a Dixon kill thwarted the rally and sent Princeton to the win.
The Tigers will take on USC Thursday at 10 pm ET, 7 pm local, and will wrap up the break week trip Friday against #12 CSUN (10 pm ET/7 local).
