Women’s Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep Against Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team earned its second-straight sweep over an Ivy League opponent Friday night when it upended Harvard University 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 29-27) inside the Malkin Athletic Center.
Along with it being the Tigers' second-consecutive sweep of an Ivy League opponent, it was Princeton's third Ivy League sweep of 2019 and moved the Tigers to 5-1 in conference play.
Senior Natasha Skov led the match with 14 kills and senior Devon Peterkin added 12 for Princeton. Senior setter Jessie Harris handed out a match-high 39 assists. Defensively, sophomore Cameron Dames led the match in digs with 14 while junior Clare Lenihan finished with four solo blocks and two block assists.
Skov started the match off with back-to-back kills then following a point by Harvard added another kill, keying a 7-0 run that put Princeton ahead 8-1 in the early stages. The Crimson were able to slightly close the gap to 15-10, but a kill by O'Connell then a 3-0 run led off by a Lenihan block gave Princeton a 19-11 advantage. Princeton ended the set with a kill by Peterson to prevail 25-15.
While the second set started off with the score tied 4-4, Princeton used a 3-0 run and back-to-back kills by Skove to take an 8-5 lead. From there the Tigers would never look back, as they would go on to hold a 19-13 advantage over Harvard. Skov would continue her dominant play to close out the set as she recorded two-straight kills on the final two points to give Princeton the 25-18 victory.
The third set proved to be the closest of the match as the Crimson would race out to a 10-6 lead. Consecutive service aces by Skov tied the score 15-15 then gave Princeton a 16-15 lead, its first of the set. With the score knotted at 24-24, an O'Connell kill have the Tigers match point but Harvard battled back to take a 27-26 lead, earning a match point itself. A clutch block by Harris then a drop shot by Lenihan would seal the win for Princeton as it would take the final set, 29-27.

The Tigers continue Ivy League play tomorrow afternoon in Hanover, New Hampshire, at 5 p.m. against Dartmouth College (5-10, 1-5) inside Leede Arena.
