Princeton Announces 2020 Men's Lacrosse Schedule

PRINCETON'S 2020 MEN'S LACROSSE SCHEDULE
If you like to watch Princeton men's lacrosse on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium, then 2020 is the year for you.
Princeton will play 13 regular season games, of which eight will be at home. Of the five road trips, two will see the Tigers travel to the home of the two teams who played in the NCAA championship game, including a Week 2 trip to defending champion Virginia, whom the Tigers lost to in overtie a year ago.
"We're excited for the start of the 2020 season," says Princeton head coach Matt Madalon. "We have some great opportunities to compete against the best teams, and our guys love to be challenged like that. As always, our goal is to play as far into May as possible, and we're going to be working hard to make that happen."
The new team on the schedule is Patriot League opponent Colgate, whom Princeton hosts on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The Princeton-Colgate series dates to 1922, but then again, the teams have only played twice and haven't played in 90 years, since the second meeting was back in 1929.
The season opens Feb. 15 against Monmouth in the first of those eight home games, followed by the visit from Colgate. After that, Princeton will be at Virginia, where the Tigers lost 18-15 two years ago before last year's 12-11 overtime loss at home to the Cavaliers, who went on to win the NCAA title.
Princeton plays five of its first six games at home, which means that there are three straight on Sherrerd Field after the trip to Charlottesville. All three are against long-time rivals.
First there will be the 90th meeting between Princeton and Johns Hopkins. Next up is the 98th meeting between Princeton and Rutgers. That's followed by the Ivy League opener against Penn, whom Princeton will play for only the 88th time.
Only once will Princeton play consecutive road games, and that will be with trips to Yale (the NCAA runner-up last year) and Brown, followed by Stony Brook at home, a midweek trip to Siena, and then Ivy games against Dartmouth (home), Harvard (away) and Cornell (home).
Princeton will be led by Michael Sowers, the program's all-time leading scorer and a Tewaaraton Award finalist last year, as well as, among others, All-America defenseman George Baughan, All-Ivy middie Jake Stevens, two-year top longstick midfelder Andrew Song, second leading scorer from 2019 Chris Brown, two-year starting attackman Phillip Robertson and returning starting goalie Erik Peters.
