No. 5/6 Princeton Takes ECAC Opener Over Quinnipiac
October 29, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Princeton got on the board 13-plus minutes into the game when Maggie Connors wouldn't be denied in pursuing her first goals of the year. The winger took an initial cross-ice pass from Sarah Fillier, but after Quinnipiac goalie Abbie Ives turned Connors' shot away, Kayla Fillier sent the rebound back to Connors, and Connors put it away for the 1-0 lead.

Quinnipiac tied it up on a Kenzie Prater goal eight minutes into the second period, and that's where it stayed into the third. Just 78 seconds into that final frame, though, Connors and Sarah Fillier traded the puck across the faceoff circle to Ives' left before Fillier wound up and powered it into the net to retake the lead for the Tigers.

The Tigers grew that lead when Claire Thompson put a puck in front of the net for a charging Sarah Fillier, who lifted a shot inside the right post to put Princeton up 3-1 just before the midway point of the third period.

Annie MacDonald pushed the lead to 4-1 with seven-and-a-half minutes to go when, after Annie Kuehl left a pass along the boards behind the net, MacDonald weaved around to find an angle before firing it in from near the faceoff dot to Ives' left.
