November 15, 2019 | Women's Cross Country
Princeton junior Melia Chittenden finished eighth overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and is in position to advance to the NCAA Championships following Friday's race at Lehigh.
The top two teams and top four finishers not on those teams advance to the NCAA finals, set for Nov. 23 at Indiana State. Penn State, with 73 points, and Villanova, with 77, earned the Mid-Atlantic's two automatic bids, and when subtracting the Villanova and Georgetown runners, Chittenden was the fourth-finishing runner, clocking 20:28.7 in the 6K race.
The NCAA Championship qualifiers will become official Saturday at 5 p.m. ET in an NCAA.com press release. Thirteen at-large teams from across the nation will also be chosen to advance.
The Tigers were in the top two at the one-mile, two-mile and 4K marks, but Penn State, Villanova and Georgetown used a late kick to move into the top three spots.
