Alex Slusher Named To 26-Man Training Roster For US U-19 Team

Alex Slusher has not yet worn a jersey with "Princeton" across the front in a real game. He has, however, worn one with "USA" on it - and he's gotten one major step closer to being able to wear it at the U-19 World Championships next summer in Ireland.

Slusher was one of 26 players who were named to the U.S. training squad for the event, which will be held next July in Limerick. The 26-man training squad still will have three more players who need to be released before getting down to the 23-man limit.

The U.S. tryouts began with 104 players, and that number has been trimmed to 26.

The U.S. team played exhibition games at Ohio State against Culver Academy (Ind.) and The Hill Academy (Canada) this past weekend. Culver, the No. 1 ranked team in the final 2019 Nike/US Lacrosse national high school rankings, beat the U.S. team 9-7 on Saturday. On Sunday, the U.S. team bounced back to beat Hill 14-6.

"We accomplished a great deal last weekend, both on and off the field," said Nick Myers, the head coach of the U.S. team and the Ohio State head coach. "I was thrilled that we stayed healthy and got a great evaluation of our group. This team got better and developed a stronger appreciation for each other and the mission."

Slusher, from Portland, Ore., scored 222 career goals with 123 career assists at Oregon Episcopal. He was a three-time US Lacrosse high school All-American and a Under Armour All-American his senior year.

He is the only three-time captain in program history.

Princeton was represented on the 2016 U.S. U-19 team by current senior Michael Sowers and former Tiger Austin Sims, who was the team captain.
