Princeton Names 2020 Captains
November 22, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
As the Princeton men's lacrosse team begins its quest to return to the Ivy League and NCAA tournaments in 2020, leadership will not be an issue.
Princeton will enter the new season with five captains, which ties the record for the most captains in program history. The 2020 season will be the third time Princeton has had five captains, along with 2003 and 1998.
Senior Michael Sowers will be a captain for the second-straight year, making him the fifth two-time Princeton captain this decade. Sowers, the all-time leader in career scoring at Princeton, will be joined by seniors Nick Bauer, Jon Levine and Phillip Robertson and junior George Baughan.
"These five young men are tremendous representatives of our program and the tradition of Princeton men's lacrosse," said Princeton head coach Matt Madalon. "To have five players named captain shows the incredible respect that everyone here has for them."
Sowers is a three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, and he was a 2019 first-team All-America and Tewaaraton Award finalist. He enters his senior year with 255 career points, which is already the highest total in program history.
Bauer is a veteran defenseman who has primarily played longstick midfield in his career. Levine, a goalie, started the first five games a year ago before he was injured.
Robertson led the nation in shooting percentage two years ago and brings 54 career goals into his senior year. Baughan was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and honorable mention All-American last year as a defenseman.
Princeton opens the 2020 season on Feb. 15 at home against Monmouth.
