AVCA RELEASE
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its preseason poll late last week and the Princeton University men's volleyball team was selected at No. 10, its highest ranking in program history.
Princeton garnered 88 points to earn its No. 10 ranking, eclipsing the No. 11 ranking it earned during the 1998 season. The Tigers were No. 11 in the April 11 and April 18 polls during the 1998 campaign.
"We are incredibly honored that the AVCA coaches have given us such a high preseason ranking," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "It is very flattering and exciting to know that so many coaches think so highly of what our program is capable of this coming season. That said, we know that the end of the season polls mean a whole lot more than the preseason polls. So, we will try and not pay too much attention to the polls, keep our heads down and keep working hard in the practice gym. Hungry and humble."
AVCA Preseason Top-15
Last season the Tigers finished with an 18-13 record and a 13-1 record in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) play. The Tigers also won the EIVA title and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Princeton welcomes back 13 players from last season's roster along with four newcomers in 2020.
The Tigers open their season against the University of California, Irvine on Sunday, December 29 at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT) inside the Bren Events Center.
