Fourth-ranked Cornell's lead was just two heading into the final ice cut, but the Big Red pulled away from the sixth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team late in Friday night's game at Baker Rink for a 5-1 win.
Princeton remained in first place in the ECAC Hockey League with 14 points, one more than Cornell and two in front of Harvard. The Tigers will look for two more ECAC standings points Saturday in a 3 p.m. visit from Colgate.
Cornell's Gillis Frechette had the only goal of the game's first 30 minutes, scoring less than nine minutes in for the Big Red, but Cornell's Paige Lewis doubled the lead midway through the second period and that's where it stayed heading into the third.
The Big Red broke it open with three goals in a six-minute span, including two from Grace Graham and one from Micah Zandee-Hart for a 5-0 lead.
Maggie Connors had Princeton's goal with less than four minutes to play as Sylvie Wallin slid a rebound off a Claire Thompson shot to Connors in front of a crowded net for the put-away.
