Connors Scores Pair, Fillier Helps Five as No. 6 Tigers Top Colgate, 7-5
December 07, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Fillier was among the Tigers who had a goal, and she helped on five others to set a single-game career best and lift her to 50 assists just a year and a half into her Tiger career.
The effort made her the first Tiger to put up five assists in a game since Kim Pearce '07 had six helpers against Cornell on Dec. 2, 2005, and it came in the highest-scoring Princeton women's hockey game since Nov. 22, 1998, a 10-2 loss to New Hampshire in Baker Rink.Â
Princeton got on the board early, with Fillier taking a pass forward from Claire Thompson and winning a race to Colgate netminder Liz Auby for a 1-0 lead 56 seconds into the game.

Colgate answered with an Allyson Simpson goal with less than eight minutes to go in the period, but Sylvie Wallin took the lead back just more than four minutes later, taking a centering pass from Fillier and firing it through the slot and into the net.

Colgate answered with Simpson's second with less than two minutes to go in the first period, and the Raiders took their first lead of the night on a Noemi Neubauerova goal just more than seven minutes into the second period.
That lead lasted less than four minutes before Carly Bullock tied it at 3-3, taking a centering pass from Fillier and, like Wallin's goal, taking her aim in through the slot.

Colgate took what became its final lead of the game on a Sammy Smigliani goal with just more than eight minutes to go in the second period, and the Raiders kept that lead into the final ice cut.
Shannon Griffin tied it up less than two minutes into the third, heading down the ice with Wallin and taking a puck Wallin sent to the doorstep of the crease for the redirect and a 4-4 tie.

The Tiger lead became 6-4 just a minute and 22 seconds later, and it was Connors again with the goal, firing on net and staying with the rebound to send it over the line.

The Tigers remained up two goals until Smigliani had her second of the game, pulling her team within 6-5 with just more than five minutes to play. With Auby pulled, Princeton weathered the extra attacker and took advantage of the open net as Fillier won a draw and Thompson sent it all the way down the ice and in for the 7-5 lead.
Connors' two-goal game was her first of the season after having eight such games a year ago as a freshman.
Princeton stayed in first place in the ECAC Hockey League with the two points, one ahead of Cornell. The Tigers will be away from league play for more than a month until a trip to Dartmouth and Harvard Jan. 10-11. Until then, Princeton will head to Las Vegas to play a pair of games against Ohio State, presently fifth in the nation by both USCHO and USA Hockey, next Saturday and Sunday at the Vegas Golden Knights' City National Arena practice facility.Â
Princeton will return to Baker Rink for non-league games against Saint Anselm Jan. 3-4.
Below, along with highlights of all seven goals, Griffin and Wallin talk about the high-scoring game and the trip to Las Vegas to come:
