Tigers Take First of Two Top-10 Battles, 4-2 Over Ohio State
December 14, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
The first of two top-10 battles in the desert went Princeton's way Saturday at Las Vegas' City National Arena, the practice facility for the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, as a trio of Tigers had goals in a 4-2 win.
The teams will get together again at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET for the series finale on the same ice for what will be Princeton's fifth game of the season against a fellow top-10 team.
Princeton picked up its second win of the season in those top-10 matchups, with Maggie Connors getting the first of her two goals on the night less than five minutes in. The Tigers scored again just more than five minutes later when Mariah Keopple found the net, but Ohio State answered each Princeton goal in the opening frame and the teams entered the first ice cut tied 2-2.
Those were the last goals Ohio State scored on the night against netminder Stephanie Neatby, who made 31 saves to get the win. Claire Thompson restored the Tiger lead less than five minutes into the second, and after Princeton stood firm on the one-goal lead for better than 34 minutes, Connors had her second of the night with an empty-netter to make it 4-2.
Connors has scored in four consecutive games, putting in six goals in that span including back-to-back two-goal games. After scoring one goal over the season's first six games, Connors has heated up over the last eight games, scoring nine goals in that time and adding three assists.Â
