Princeton Wins Another Thriller, Clinches Third In Ivies After 1-3 Start
February 10, 2019 | Men's Squash
Friday's 5-4 thriller over Columbia was so exciting for Princeton that the Tigers decided to repeat it on Sunday.
With the match score tied at 4-4 apiece, junior Adhitya Raghavan handled the pressure of the moment and defeated Andrew Muran 11-8, 11-6, 11-7 to clinch the road win for Princeton, which concluded its regular season with a winning record in both overall (7-6) and Ivy League competition (4-3). It also clinched a spot in the top flight of the CSA team championships next weekend at Yale, though the actual seeding will be determined early this week.
Princeton, which knocked off #5 Columbia 5-4 Friday night in Jadwin, also clinched a share of third place in the Ivy League with the win, a remarkable feat considering the Tigers opened Ivy League play with a 1-3 record and had to play two higher-ranked teams over the final eight days of the season.
Freshman Daelum Mawji provided a big early win for Princeton, as he used a 13-11 win in the third game to claim a win at #3. Juniors Gabriel Morgan and Henry Parkhurst added wins during the first shift to open a 3-0 lead, but Cornell battled back to get itself in position for the upset. Sophomore Alex Engstrom put Princeton in position to get the win with his 3-0 victory at #4, and Raghavan finished the job to earn Princeton's seventh team win of the season.
