Emmet Cordrey Named Ivy League Player Of The Week
February 18, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
As first career starts go, Emmet Cordrey's went pretty well.
The Princeton senior, who has been a steady contributor on attack and in the midfield for his entire career, started on attack in Saturday's season opener at Monmouth. It took him 14 seconds to score the first Princeton goal of the season, less than a quarter to match his previous career high in goals and a little more than three quarters to double it as the Tigers rolled past the Hawks 23-7.
Cordrey finished with six goals and two assists, matching his junior season point total of eight, and he capped off his first career start by being named the first Ivy League Player of the Week for 2019.
The performance made Cordrey the fifth Princeton player in the last seven seasons to have at least six goals in a game, joining Austin Sims, Gavin McBride, Mike MacDonald and Kip Orban).
Cordrey's previous career high was three goals, which he set last year against Virginia, the team Princeton hosts this coming Saturday in its home opener. Virginia is currently ranked 12th by the coaches and the media, while Princeton is ranked 19th by the coaches and 20th by the media.
