Princeton Sweeps Sacred Heart To Remain Alone Atop EIVA Standings
February 23, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Junior Greg Luck showed his impressive versatility Saturday afternoon, recording 13 kills, seven digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks to lead Princeton to a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. The win is Princeton's fifth in a row and it keeps the Tigers alone in first place heading into next week's showdown at both Penn State and Saint Francis.
Luck, who hit .545 and committed only one error, wasn't the only Tiger to perform well at Sacred Heart. Senior Kendall Ratter had 10 kills and eight digs, and he also matched Luck with three aces. Junior George Huhmann had nine kills, while freshman Brady Wedbush had five kills in his second league start. Sophomore Joe Kelly paced the offense with 34 assists, and he added five digs, while freshman Jerod Nelson posted four digs and two aces.
Princeton was in control throughout its 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 victory over the Pioneers, who were coming off a league win over NJIT Friday night, to cap its first 5-0 start in EIVA play this century. A 6-0 start would be particularly impressive, as the Tigers will head to State College next Friday for a 7 pm showdown at Penn State. Princeton had never won at Penn State since last season, when the Tigers posted a 3-0 road win to clinch a season sweep of the Nittany Lions.
