Princeton Ends Run Of Heartbreakers To Dartmouth In Dominating 8-1 Fashion
February 03, 2019 | Men's Squash
The last three Princeton-Dartmouth men's squash matches have resulted in heartbreaking 5-4 losses for a Tiger team that has built resilience through years of adversity. That resilience was in full effect Sunday at Jadwin, and it assured there would be no disappointing result this time. In fact, it wasn't close either.
Princeton dominated both shifts of Sunday's 8-1 victory over fifth-ranked Dartmouth, which ended a four-match losing streak to the Big Green and should go a long way in keeping Princeton in the top flight of the CSA Championships in two weeks. A five-game win for junior Adhitya Raghavan, whose week also included a 3-2 win over Penn's Andrew Douglas, was all the early momentum Princeton would need.
The Tigers led 3-1 after the opening shift, which started with a 3-0 win for junior Gabriel Morgan at #6. Freshman Howe Cheng remained undefeated with a 3-1 win at #7, and Raghavan scored an 11-6 win over Carson Spahr in the fifth game to give Princeton a third win. Dartmouth stayed alive with a five-game win at #3, but Princeton jumped all over Dartmouth in the second shift. Seniors Clark Doyle and Cody Cortes, playing their second-to-last matches at Princeton, but were impressive in wins; Doyle had victories of 11-1 and 11-4 at #2, while Cortes fought for a 15-13 opener to help his win at #5.
Alex Engstrom swept his match at #4, as did Duncan Joyce at #8, while Henry Parkhurst won three of four very close games to take his match at #9.
Princeton will honor its senior class Friday before its regular season finale, a 5 pm match against Columbia.
