George Huhmann Claims 6th Career EIVA Weekly Honor, Earns Offensive Award After Thrilling Week
March 11, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Junior All-American George Huhmann led Princeton to consecutive thrillers over league rival NJIT last weekend, and his efforts earned him the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week award. It is the sixth career weekly honor for Huhmann, and he is now the third Princeton player to receive at least one such award this season.
Huhmann recorded 39 kills and five aces, hit .231 for the week and scored 52.5 points to help the Tigers to 3-2 victories over the Highlands, as well as a hard-fought loss to seventh-ranked Lewis. He led the Tigers in kills in both NJIT wins, including an 18-kill performance that ended with a 17-15 Princeton win in the fifth set of a home victory on Tuesday. He was an efficient .462 in the loss to Lewis, and he also led Princeton's defensive charge over the week with a team-best 16 blocks.
"We are very proud of the strong performance George put up this past week," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "His consistency as an offensive threat from all areas of the court helped keep our offense diversified against NJIT, which helped us with two critical league victories. Against #7 Lewis, George again looked comfortable taking the lead on offense. We are very excited to see what George can do against nationally ranked Hawaii and BYU coming up over spring break and into the second half of league play."
Huhmann, the 2017 EIVA Newcomer of the Year and a two-time All-EIVA honoree, is one of two Tigers to rank in the top five in the league in both kills and attack percentage. He joins classmates Parker Dixon (two-time Offensive) and Greg Luck (Defensive) as 2019 Player of the Week honorees.
