VIDEO: Sam Shweisky Breaks Down Princeton's Performance At The BYU Invitational
After two strong performances against Top-10 opponents, the Princeton men's volleyball team didn't have enough in the tank Saturday to knock off a strong McKendree team in the final day of the Provo Invitational. Princeton was able to see several freshmen get playing time in a 3-0 loss to McKendree in the final match before the season-ending EIVA sprint.
Freshman Nate Thompson led the Tigers with six kills, while classmate Brady Wedbush matched junior Parker Dixon with five in a 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 loss to the Bearcats. Jerod Nelsen, yet another freshman to see quality time, matched All-American George Huhmann with three kills, while sophomore Joe Kelly paced the offense with 22 assists. Senior Corry Short led the Tiger defense with eight digs, while Wedbush had the team's lone service ace.
While Princeton didn't taste victory against the likes of #8 BYU or #2 Hawaii, the Tigers did get the kind of quality competition they hoped for before playing the final five matches of the EIVA season, starting next weekend at George Mason. Princeton currently leads the EIVA with an 8-1 record, and next week is the final road match before closing the league season with four straight home matches. If the Tigers take care of business, that home streak could continue into the next week, as Princeton remains in position to host the EIVA playoffs for the first time in team history.
