Sowers Named Ivy League Player Of The Week
April 15, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
Michael Sowers had better than one-and-a-half times his career points per game average in a pair of Princeton men's lacrosse wins last week, and when that average is already the best in Division I in the last 38 years, then you've had quite a week.
Sowers, averaging just under six points per game for his career, went for 18 in two games last week. In doing so, he earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
Sowers began his week with six goals and five assists in a 19-10 win over Siena and then followed that up with three goals and four assists in the 13-4 win ove Dartmouth. His 11 points against Siena are tied for the most any Princeton player has ever had in a game against another college.
In addition to that, Sowers moved into second-place all-time in scoring at Princeton with 237 career points, just 10 away from tying Kevin Lowe's 25-year-old school record of 247. Sowers also has 72 points for the year, tied for fifth on the school's single-season list, on which he is already first (83 points a year ago) and second (82 freshman year).
Princeton got back to .500 with the win at 6-6 and is now 1-3 in the Ivy League with games remaining against Harvard Saturday at home and at Cornell April 27. Princeton is still playing for a spot in the Ivy League tournament.
