PRINCETON, N.J. – The 2019 EIVA Champion Princeton Tigers will take on the Barton College Bulldogs at Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson, N.C. on Thursday (Apr. 25) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
"We're so excited to be the team to represent the EIVA in the NCAA Tournament," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "We can't wait to represent our school and our league with pride. It is an opportunity we have been striving after for a long time. We can wait!"
The time for the game has not been announced yet. The Bulldogs are 25-4 overall and won the Conference Carolina Championship Tournament over King (Tenn.) on Thursday. Princeton and Barton have faced off just one time in program history with the Tigers earning a 3-1 decision in 2014.
The winner of this game will play Pepperdine, the MPSF Champion, on Apr. 30 (10:30 p.m. EST).
For the first time since 1998, Princeton won the EIVA crown in a five-set thriller (28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-13) over the Penn State Nittany Lions at Dillon Gym last night. In the final stanza, the two units exchanged rallies and kept close before a service ace from Kendall Ratter provided the home group with a 14-11 margin. The Lions got within one, but George Huhmann's kill sent Dillon Gym into a frenzy.
Huhmann finished with 25 kills and a .426 attack percentage while Parker Dixon produced 15 kills and a .489 attack percentage. Joe Kelly had 51 assists in the victory. All three were named to the All-Tournament squad while Huhmann was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
