Huhmann Named To U.S. VNL Team
May 15, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The accolades continue to pour in for George Huhmann as he was named to the United States' FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) team.
He is the only current collegiate player on the roster that is filled with former Olympians. It's the most prestigious event that a Princeton volleyball player has ever participated in at the national level.
Starting on May 31st, the 2019 VNL retains a similar calendar to last year, with men playing over the weekends and women during the week in pools of four teams each until each has played against every other in a single round robin tournament.
The top five teams at the end of the Preliminary Round join the hosts of the Finals to fight for the ultimate prize. The women's finals will be held in China from July 3-7 with the men's following a week later July 10-14th in the United States.
"We are so proud of George for being named to the VNL roster for this summer," said Princeton head coach Sam Shweisky. It is an incredible opportunity for him to practice and train with Olympians and the best coaches in our sport. George will undoubtedly learn a tremendous amount from this experience and we are so excited for how it will benefit him as a player. Thank you to USA Volleyball for this great opportunity!"
It's been a remarkable year for Huhmann as he picked up his second All-America accolade last month. He was also awarded the Uvaldo Acosta Memorial EIVA Player of the Year becoming the first Tiger to ever win the nomination. He later helped the Tigers to their second EIVA title in program history, leading to him be picked as the EIVA Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
