Women's Squash Team Announces Trio of Incoming Players
August 23, 2019 | Women's Squash
Finishing last season with an impressive 13-1 record, the Princeton women's squash team is excited to welcome three incoming student-athletes that will bolster a roster that placed fourth at the Howe Cup in 2019.

Caroline Spahr
Milton, Mass./Milton Academy
Quote from Head Coach Gail Ramsay: "We are really looking forward to having Caroline as a team member. She has dedicated a lot of time to squash and she will bring some impressive competitive experience to the program. I think representing the USA at the Junior World Team Championship this summer will help her raise her game and be very competitive with the top half of our squad. She is a strong and determined athlete and a great fit for Princeton Squash."
Before Princeton: Ranked #1 at U11, U13, U15, #2 at U17 and #3 at U19 … played for the Junior National Team at the World Junior Championships in both 2018 and 2019 … took fourth at Junior Nationals in 2019 … was the runner-up at the Junior Champions Tour (JCT) in Baltimore, while finishing fourth at the Cincinnati, Massachusetts and Philadelphia Junior Champions Tours … was top 32 at the 2019 World Junior Championships … played for Milton Academy all four years and won the New England individual title in 2018 … was a three-time All-America and a four-time all-Independent School League honoree and the league MVP in 2018 … captain of the varsity team as a junior and a senior … best win was a comeback victory after being down 2-0 to win first ever tournament when she was eight-years-old… also competed on the varsity track & field teams in 2017 and 2018 … played at the University Club of Boston and coached by her father Chris Spahr … trained with Jaye Locke and Chris Kane at Milton Academy.
Personal: Full name is Caroline Spahr … born Jan. 17 … parents are Chris and Catherine Spahr … father played squash at Franklin & Marshall and was national runner up … has an older brother Carson (Dartmouth '19) who played at #1 and #2 at Dartmouth earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors.
Why Princeton: I saw the Princeton campus for the first time when I was 9 years old and I was in awe of its complex beauty. 8 years later I revisited the campus and I once again felt how extraordinary the school is. The squash girls immediately made me feel like I was already on the team and the other students were all so welcoming. I love how students with a diversity of backgrounds as well as academic and extracurricular interests come together to create a close knit student body. I am so excited to be part of a school with a challenging and intriguing curriculum, a competitive and highly ranked squash team and a diverse community of passionate and driven students.

India Stephenson
Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy
Quote from Head Coach Gail Ramsay: "I am excited about having India be part of the program this fall! I have watched her grow and mature as a player over the last 4 season and I was very impressed with her fight and desire to succeed every time she walks on the court. I think she has great potential and she will bring her strong work ethic to the program and be competitive right from the start of her career as a Tiger!"
Before Princeton: Ranked #1 in US squash in 2017-18 … had a top 10 finish at US Nationals in 2018 and was third in the Dutch Junior Open in 2017 … a four-time national team champion at Greenwich Academy, playing at #1 as a junior … trained under Peter S. Briggs, Simba Muhwati and Luke Butterworth … best win was at the 2019 US High School Nationals and defeating her opponent in the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Junior Champions Tour … named a US Squash Scholar-Athlete and won the Greenwich Academy Boast Award.
Personal: Full name is India Stephenson … born May 9 … parents are Richard and Margot Stephenson … has two older brothers Jack (Georgetown '20) and Wilson (Duke '22) who both play collegiate lacrosse and an identical twin sister Lucy who is also on the Princeton squash team.
Why Princeton: I chose Princeton because it offers the highest level of academic and athletic excellence. Princeton's team was the pivotal aspect of why I chose the university. Their commitment to working hard as well as their tight bond made the school incredibly attractive and I am so excited to be a part of that.

Lucy Stephenson
Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy
Quote from Head Coach Gail Ramsay: "Lucy will be a great addition to the program. I think last year was one of her best seasons to date. She won her 4th National HS Team Championship while at Greenwich Academy and also had her best US JCT circuit so far. The team and I are looking forward to having her positive energy and desire to succeed which she has shown throughout her career to give us a boost and help us be the best team we can be in the coming 2019-20 season."
Before Princeton: Has been ranked in the top 20 every year of junior squash, reaching top 10 U15 and top four U17 … played for Greenwich Academy Varsity … a four-time national team champion at Greenwich Academy and at Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y. … trained under Simba Muhwati and Luke Butterworth … won the U13 Canadian National Championships, defeating her sister India in the final … was second in both 2014 and 2015 at the U15 … was top five at U.S. Nationals as a junior after taking eighth as a sophomore … placed ninth at the US Open … was named the Most Improved Player her junior year and was a two-time all-league honoree … credits her best win as the final match of her sophomore year that clinched the national title.
Personal: Full name is Lucy Stephenson … born May 9… parents are Richard and Margot Stephenson … has two older brothers Jack (Georgetown '20) and Wilson (Duke '22) who both play collegiate lacrosse and an identical twin sister India who is also on the Princeton squash team.
Why Princeton: I chose Princeton for many reasons. The first being how close and unique the team is. Princeton was the only school I visited where I met every single player on the team and I really felt welcomed and at home when I visited which really hit home for me. I love the size of the school and how close it is to home for me. I'm also very interested in social and political sciences so the Woodrow Wilson school really interested me and I didn't find anything like it at other schools.
