No. 12 Princeton Drops Overtime Thriller To No. 9 UC San DIego, 11-10

PRINCETON, N.J. – Keller Maloney's penalty shot goal with one second to go send a thriller into overtime, but the No. 9 UC San Diego Tritons defeated the No. 12 Princeton Tigers, 11-10, at DeNunzio Pool.
In overtime, the Tigers forced a turnover with five seconds to go, down a goal, but a last-second attempt hit the top bar and gave the Tritons the victory.
Princeton jumped out, scoring the first two goals of the game and held a 4-3 advantage after eight minutes of action. The Tigers extended their lead, snagging the first two tallies of the second stanza and held a 6-4 lead at halftime.
UC San Diego rallied and tied the contest at 6-all and 7-all in the third frame before taking an 8-7 lead with 5:09 remaining. The Tritons extended their advantage as the clock ticked near one minute to go, but Yurian Quinones answered with a tally with 40 seconds left. Princeton was awarded a penalty shot right before the buzzer as the UC San Diego bench tried to call timeout without having one.

In the first portion of overtime, the Tritons collected two goals before Maloney's tally with 1:23 lingering cut the Tigers' deficit in half. Princeton forced a turnover as UC San Diego was running the clock out, but couldn't convert.
Head coach Dustin Litvak's team continues the Princeton Invitational tomorrow with two matches vs. Johns Hopkins (10:30 a.m.) and No. 14 Bucknell (6 p.m.). Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ while the Bucknell matchup can be seen in the Philadelphia area on NBC Sports Philadelphia +.
