Princeton Begins Ivy Play with Sweep Over Penn

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers started off their Ivy campaign in impressive fashion with a 3-0 sweep over the Penn Quakers at Dillon Gym on Friday evening.
The first set was even affair with neither team leading by more than two points until a service ace from Devon Peterkin put the home squad in front, 18-15. Lenihan had 11 kills and a remarkable .526 hitting percentage while Peterkin had a double-double (12 kills, 10 digs) while Montgomery added 14 kills in the win.
Princeton continues its Ivy homestand next weekend with Columbia (Oct. 4) and Cornell (Oct. 5) coming to Dillon. The Columbia match is set for 7 p.m.

Penn gained its first separation of the match in the second frame, registering five consecutive points to take an 11-6 advantage. The Tigers roared back to tie the match at 15-all, but Penn responded with three tallies, forcing Princeton to call timeout (18-15). Head coach Sabrina King's unit didn't go away, equaling the score at 18 and 19-all. A ball handling error pushed the Tigers up, 20-19. Clare finishes off the Quakers with an impressive kill. Elena and Devon combined for 11 kills and an impressive .578 hitting percentage.
