PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers collected their fourth straight victory with a 3-1 takedown of the Columbia Lions at Dillon Gym on Friday night.
The Lions pushed ahead in set one, 16-11, before the Tigers roared back to tie the contest at 18-all. Consecutive attack errors finally put Princeton in the lead, 20-18, forcing a Columbia timeout. The Tigers finished the first set with five straight points to finish up a 25-19 decision.
Evened at 16-all in set two, Columbia went ahead with four of the next five points, setting the score at 21-17. Princeton got within two, but the Lions ultimately won the set, 25-22.
Kills by Maggie O'Connell, Clare Lenihan and an attack error gave the Tigers an 18-16 advantage in the next frame. Columbia eventually tied the score at 20 and 21-all. Princeton raced out to set point, but the road squad rebounded with three straight (24-24). O'Connell finished off the stanza with consecutive kills and put head coach Sabrina King's squad in front, 2-1.
King's unit closed out the Ivy matchup in impressive fashion, rolling off eight straight points to secure set four, 25-15.
Finishing one kill shy of a double-double, Devon Peterkin dropped in 16 digs, two service aces and two solo blocks. Elena Montgomery led the Tigers with 19 kills while O'Connell had an impressive .483 hitting percentage (16 kills) in the victory.
Princeton finishes the Ivy League weekend vs. Cornell tomorrow (5 p.m.).
