September 03, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
WINNIPEG – The Princeton Tigers are well represented at the NORCECA Championships with Cody Kessel '15 and George Huhmann on the roster. Head coach Sam Shweisky is an assistant coach on the squad.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity to coach with the United States again this summer and travel with a team internationally for the sixth consecutive year," said Shweisky. "This will be my first time coaching internationally at the men's senior level which is very exciting. The best part about this trip is getting to see two Tigers on the roster! Getting to coach George and Cody is such an incredible opportunity! I am so proud of those guys and what they have accomplished."
There are seven teams in the tournament in the United States, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico. The U.S. team is a combination of young players who have played in both FIVB and Pan American events this season. Many are hoping to make the roster for the FIVB World Cup in October and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The U.S. squad opened up the tournament by easily defeating the Dominican Republic, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14. The unit takes on Guatemala today (4 p.m.) and Cuba tomorrow (7 p.m.) before quarterfinal action starts on Thursday. You can watch the games through the link above.
