Princeton Secures Split During Day 1 at Navy Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 12 Princeton Tigers secured a split during day one of the Navy Invite, defeating the La Salle Explorers, 15-4, but losing to the No. 2 UCLA Bruins, 13-5, at Lejeune Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Princeton held La Salle without a goal for the first 11:50 of game action as it raced out to a 6-0 lead. The Explorers closed within four in the first half, but the Tigers took a 9-2 advantage into the break. Head coach Dustin Litvak's group's outstanding defense continued in the second half, holding La Salle to one tally in the third frame. Princeton led 14-3 after 24 minutes and secured the 11-goal decision.
Yurian Quinones posted four goals in his collegiate debut while three other players had multi-goal performances. The Tigers' goalies combined for 16 saves in the win. Princeton finishes the day with No. 2 UCLA at 3:15 p.m.

UCLA posted the first three goals of the game and took a 5-1 lead after eight minutes of action. Sean Duncan's goal at the buzzer pulled the Tigers within four, 8-4, at halftime. The defending national champion held Princeton scoreless in the third frame, taking an 11-4 lead into the final quarter. The Bruins finished off the game with two tallies, securing the 13-5 decision.
Duncan paced the Tigers' offense with two goals while Billy Motherway stopped 10 shots in the loss. Princeton finishes the Navy Invite with contests vs. Austin College (8 a.m.) and No. 2 Stanford tomorrow (10:30 a.m.
