Baughan, Sowers Named Preseason All-Americans
January 21, 2020 | Men's Lacrosse
George Baughan and Michael Sowers have been named preseason media All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse.
Sowers, who enters his senior season already Princeton's career leader in points, was a first-team selection, which is hardly surprising given that he was a first-team All-American and Tewaaraton Award finalist a year ago. Sowers enters his senior year with 255 career points, already having bettered the former record of 247, set by Kevin Lowe and then held for 25 years.
Â
Sowers has 105 goals and 150 assists, leaving him 58 goals and 24 assists away from the Princeton career records of 163 goals (Jesse Hubbard) and 174 assists (Kevin Lowe). Sowers has averaged 6.07 points per game for his career, the best of any player in Division I in the last 38 years and the fifth-best ever. He also averages 3.57 assists per game, the fourth-best ever and also the best in nearly 40 years.
Â
Baughan, a junior, is a second-team preseason All-American defenseman. Like Sowers, Baughan was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection a year ago, when he was an honorable mention All-American as well.
Â
A ferocious one-on-one defender, Baughan has been among the national leaders in caused turnovers each of his first two seasons.
Â
Sowers and Baughan were both preseason All-Ivy League selections as well by Inside Lacrosse (only one team was named). The third Princeton player to be on the All-Ivy team was sophomore shortstick defensive middie Jake Stevens, who was a second-team All-Ivy League pick last year as a freshman, when he second in Division I in ground balls per game off the face-off wings.
Â
Stevens had five goals and three assists, along with a team-best 60 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers as a freshman.
Â
Princeton opens its season at home against Monmouth on Feb. 15.
