Alex Charles & Melia Chittenden Named Fall 2020 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Award Recipients

PNC Achiever History
Princeton Athletics and PNC Bank are proud to recognize our Fall 2020 PNC Bank Student-Athlete Achiever Award recipients – Alex Charles (men's soccer) and Melia Chittenden (women's cross country).
A junior defender for men's soccer, Alex Charles earned honorable-mention All-Ivy last season, as well as the soccer program's William Trevor Trophy for most improved player. Off the pitch, he serves as a fellow in the Princeton Writing Center, Mentor Coordinator with Academic Success Today and is Co Editor-in-Chief of the Tortoise Literary Magazine. Charles has taken a leading role within the team to bring soccer to underserved communities, while also leading team efforts to support the homeless population in New Jersey. Departmentally, he is a founding member of the newly formed Black Student-Athlete Council working to enhance the black student-athlete experience at Princeton.
Charles, from Raleigh, N.C., is studying in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
Melia Chittenden is a two-time cross country / track & field team captain and a First Team All-Ivy and All-Region honoree. She qualified for the NCAA Cross Country championship in 2019, and has twice been named an NCAA Academic All-American. Chittenden led the cross country team's recent service effort to provide headphones to 2,000 students in the Trenton community to assist with virtual learning. She has also served as a community outreach intern for the catholic charities of central New Mexico, supported immigration efforts for the International Rescue Committee and tutored inmates through the Princeton-based Petey Greene Program.
Chittenden, from Manhattan Beach, Calif., is a student in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs while also holding minors in Arabic Language & Culture, Near Eastern Studies and Cognitive Science.
