No. 11 Men's Volleyball Falls to NJIT

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 11 Princeton University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-22) to the New Jersey Institute of Technology Friday night in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) matchup inside Dillon Gymnasium.
Senior George Huhmann led Princeton with 14 kills while junior Joe Kelly handed out a team-high 27 assists. Freshman James Hartley tied the match-high in service aces with four while freshman Nico Posivak recorded a team-high five digs. Huhmann, senior Greg Luck and sophomore Jerod Nelsen each led the Tigers in blocks with two.
Thanks to a 3-0 run that featured a Huhmann kill and back-to-back service aces, the Tigers took a 7-6 lead against the Highlanders in the opening set. A kill by freshman Alexander Mrkalj knotted the score at 15-15 as the continued as a back-and-forth battle. Princeton had set points at 26-25 and 27-26, but NJIT held on for the 30-28 win.
The second set saw the Highlanders jump out to a 6-2 advantage, but Princeton trimmed away at the deficit and made it 9-7 following a kill by Huhmann. With the Highlander holding set point at 24-15, the Tigers rallied and pulled off a 3-0 run but NJIT managed to come away with the 25-18 win in the second set.
NJIT managed to take an early 4-3 advantage in the third set, but a Huhmann kill followed by a Luck block saw Princeton jump ahead 5-4. Another Huhmann kill saw Princeton lead 7-6, but with the score knotted at 10-10 NJIT went on a 4-0 run from which the Tigers could not recover. A kill and a service ace by Nelsen cut it to two at 20-18, but the Highlanders would come out on top, 25-22.

The Tigers will host No. 10 Grand Canyon University (12-5, 4-2) inside Dillon Gymnasium on Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
