PRINCETON, N.J. – The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association has approved the addition of St. Francis College Brooklyn to become the conference's ninth member.
The application by the Terriers' program was unanimously approved on Wednesday, May 6, in a vote of the EIVA's eight current institutions. St. Francis Brooklyn will become an official member of the EIVA for the 2022 season. The Terriers are the first addition to the league since Charleston (W.Va.) joined in 2016. The Terriers' new membership will coincide with the league's 50th season.
"We are very excited to welcome Saint Francis Brooklyn into the EIVA," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "The SFU coaches and administration did a tremendous presentation to our group and made us all very excited about their addition to league play in the 2022 season. We can't wait to welcome them to the EIVA!
"I am incredibly excited that St. Francis College Brooklyn has been accepted into the EIVA," head coach Niko Lambert said. "It's a tremendous honor to be able to join such a prestigious conference that has built a great legacy of men's volleyball on the East Coast. I am looking forward to working with such a remarkable group of coaches and fellow institutions as we collectively grow the game on the national level. I know the entire Terrier volleyball family is thrilled at the prospect of being the ninth member of the EIVA, and we can't wait to get back to work."
The Terriers men's volleyball program played its inaugural season earlier this year, posting a 5-10 record before play was halted around the country. Lambert guided a team with eight freshmen among its 11 student-athletes through a campaign that included matchups with the EIVA's Sacred Heart, NJIT, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Harvard. A rematch with Sacred Heart and a contest at Princeton were on the schedule before the season was ended.
"We are thrilled to welcome St. Francis Brooklyn to the EIVA family," EIVA Commissioner Russ Yurk said. "Athletic Director Irma Garcia and her team are incredibly passionate and have exciting plans for the future, which will make the Terriers a great addition to the EIVA and the entire NCAA men's volleyball community."
Most of St. Francis Brooklyn's other athletic programs are a part of the Northeast Conference – which also includes Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (Pa.).
The EIVA's nine programs are the most since 2011, when it had 11 teams and two divisions in the final season before schools left after the NCAA added a Division III level.
