Slusher Selected To Final US Roster For U-21 World Championships
November 30, 2021 | Men's Lacrosse
Whether it was going to be U-19, U-20 or U-21, Alex Slusher was destined to take a summer trip to Limerick, Ireland.
Slusher, the Princeton junior, was one of the final 23 players chosen to the United States roster for the U-21 World Championships, which will be held in the Irish town this coming August. The tournament was originally going to be the U-19 championships in 2020, but it was rescheduled as a U-20 event in 2021 because of the Covid pandemic. When Covid also forced that postponement, it was pushed back another year and the age limit raised once again.
The original tryouts for the U.S. team were held in the summer of 2019, and Slusher made an immediate impact. His place on the final roster was pretty much assured well before the announcement yesterday.
Slusher started all five games Princeton played his freshman year, finishing with seven goals and an assist as a midfielder. He has moved back to his natural attack position at Princeton, and he will play attack for the U.S. team as well.
The United States has won all eight U-19 tournaments, most recently in 2016, when Michael Sowers was the team's leading scorer and Austin Sims was the team captain.
