Men's Lax: Cottrell Joins Staff; Kovler To Potomac Hall Of Fame; Schreiber, Currier In PLL Top 5
December 17, 2021 | Men's Lacrosse
While the Princeton men's lacrosse team is in first-semester exams and opening day is still nine weeks away, it's still been a busy time for the program.
Â
In Princeton Men's Lacrosse news, Drew Cottrell has joined the staff as Director of Men's Lacrosse Operations, Mark Kovler has been inducted into the Potomac Chapter of the National Hall of Fame and Tom Schreiber and Zach Currier have been named among the top five players in the Premier Lacrosse League.
Â
Drew Cottrell spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Muhlenberg College, where the Mules went 5-0 in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled. In 2021, the team finished second in the Centennial Conference, which was the highest finish in program history.Â
Â
Before coaching at Muhlenberg, Cottrell spent time as a player and a student-assistant while an undergraduate at Stevens Institute of Technology. During his time at Stevens, he earned a degree in Business Management, was a team captain, and was twice named as an Empire 8 Conference Sportsman of the Year. In 2018, he was a member of the coaching staff that was awarded the IMLCA D3 East Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Â
A native of Homer, NY, he attended Homer High School and was a New York State Section 3 Boys Lacrosse Academic All-American in 2015.Â
Â
Mark Kovler was a 2009 first-team All-American after scoring 34 goals as a lefthanded middie with one of the hardest shots in program history. A graduate of the Landon School, he finished his career as one of Princeton's all-time highest scoring midfielders with 91 goals.
Â
Kovler earned honorable mention All-American honors after his junior year, which was cut short by a broken leg in early April, when he was leading the team in goals with 16. He earned first-team All-Ivy League honors as a sophomore and junior, and he was a second-team pick his freshman year.
Â
Today Kovler is finishing his surgical residency at Johns Hopkins.
Â
Tom Schreiber and Zach Currier were both among the top five picks in the recent vote of PLL players for the top 50 players in the league. Schreiber finished in second place in the voting, while Currier came in fifth.
Â
Schreiber won the league's Midfielder of the Year Award the first two years of the league's existence, and Currier won it a year ago.
