PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 9 Princeton Tigers host the No. 20 U.S. Naval Academy (1:30 p.m.) and Wagner Seahawks (6 p.m.) on Saturday at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton continues to climb in the national rankings, reaching No. 9 this week, tied with UC San Diego. The Tigers currently sit at 10-2 and on a six-game winning streak. Head coach Dustin Litvak's group went out to California and swept three ranked opponents in No. 17 LMU, No. 10 Pepperdine and No. 13 UC Irvine. The Tigers also have wins over No. 14 California Baptist and No. 16 Bucknell to add to their impressive resume.
Simply put, Roko Pozaric has been outrageously impressive this season. The freshman has made a quick adjustment to water polo in the United States, contributing a team-best 33 goals, 22 assists, 19 steals, along with 13 drawn ejections. He also has lost just one sprint in 40 attempts. He opened his career with two consecutive weeks of Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Player and Rookie of the Week honors while getting a third straight Rookie accolade on Monday.
Keller Maloney has posted a team-high 52.1 shooting percentage while corralling 25 goals, 13 assists, 16 drawn ejections and steals. He put up 11 points during the West Coast trip, earning NWPC Player of the Week. Princeton has five other players with at least 10 goals this season in Mason Killion, Yurian Quinones, George Caras and Vladan Mitrovic.
Billy Motherway has slowly worked his way back from an injury and made a huge impact last weekend, collecting victories over LMU and UC Irvine. He totaled 26 saves, nabbing NWPC Defensive Player of the Week. In four games this year, Motherway has stopped 35 shots and is 3-0. Antonio Knez has also picked up a NWPC weekly award for Princeton. In nine contests, he is 7-2 with a .551 save percentage.
Both games this weekend are on ESPN+. Navy, led by former Princeton head coach Luis Nicolao, is 4-4 this season with a signature win over Brown. Wagner is 6-6 in 2021 with wins over No. 14 California Baptist and No. 15 Bucknell.
