Princeton Falls In Five Sets To No. 12 UC-San Diego

The difference between Princeton and San Diego outside of Dillon Gym Saturday was about 55 degrees and half a foot of snow. The difference inside Dillon was minimal.

UC-San Diego, the 12^th-ranked team in the current men's volleyball rankings, rallied from twice being down a set to defeat Princeton 15-12 in the fifth and close out a 21-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12 win. The match was wildly entertaining throughout, and in the end it was the Tritons' ability to hold off eight Princeton chances to draw even in the fifth set that made the difference.

Princeton fell to 1-5 on the year, with four of its five losses now having come against teams from California. UC-San Diego bounced back from its tough loss to NJIT Friday night, a match in which the Tritons had led two sets to none at one point and then were up 20-11 in the fourth before falling.

Princeton won the first set and then fell behind early in the second as UC-San Diego evened it at 1-1. The Tigers never trailed in the third, but the Tritons jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the fourth to set up the winner-take-all final set.

Ben Harrington and Nate Thompson had 13 kills each to lead Princeton, while Brady Wedbush had 10. Henry Wedbush ad 41 assists for the Tigers, who open their 2022 EIVA season at Penn State and St. Francis next weekend.
