October 14, 2022 | Men's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 12 Men's Water Polo squad heads west for its second California trip of the season.
Princeton begins the trip at No. 8 UC Santa Barbara on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, 12 p.m. PT) before a contest at No. 8 Pepperdine on Tuesday (5 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. PT) and at No. 11 Loyola Marymount on Thursday (6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. PT). The weekend features four games at the Santa Clara Invitational highlighted by a battle vs. No. 1 Stanford on Oct. 23.
3: There are only three players in Princeton history to collect 140 career assists in Ryan Wilson '18 (220), Matt Payne '18 (148) and now Keller Maloney (140). Maloney averaged 38 helpers through his first three seasons and is already up to 26 in 2022, which leads the team.
5: The Tigers currently have a five-game winning streak, all against Northeast Water Polo Conference foes. Princeton has won in a variety of ways, whether they need to score a big number (like 18 goals vs. MIT) or shut down a squad (like allowing just six goals to Harvard). It's the squad's second five-game winning streak of the season.
6: Antonio Knez secured his sixth career NWPC Defensive Player of the Week award on Wednesday after collecting 19 stops vs. No. 20 St. Francis-Brooklyn. During the game, he surpassed the 500-save milestone in his career, making him the eighth player in program history to reach that.
9: Princeton's balanced scoring has proven to be vital as it has raced out to a 13-4 record. The Tigers have nine players with at least 10 goals this season with four securing at least 20 tallies. Whether it's a freshman in JP Ohl (13 goals) or A senior in Keller Maloney (24 goals), the Tigers are getting contributions from everyone.
