No. 9 Men's Water Polo Drops No. 12 LMU; Set For Santa Clara Invite This Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A 10-goal second half was the difference as the No. 9 Princeton Tigers dropped the No. 12 Loyola Marymount Lions, 12-9, at the Burns Aquatic Center.
The Lions scored the final two goals of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead after eight minutes. No goals were scored in the second frame before the Tigers opened up the second half with goals from George Caras and Vladan Mitrovic to take the lead. This time, LMU went on a run to retake the advantage, 5-4. Princeton ran off three consecutive goals and was up, 7-6, with one stanza to go.
Head coach Dustin Litvak's group went on another three-goal run to jump in front, 10-6. The home team would not get closer than three the rest of the way as Princeton collected its 15th victory of the season.
The Tigers will take part in the Santa Clara Invitational starting tomorrow. Princeton battles #17 Santa Clara on Friday (5:40 p.m., 2:40 p.m. PT). Saturday features contests vs. Fresno Pacific (11 a.m., 8 a.m. PT) and No. 16 Cal Baptist (4:20 p.m., 1:20 p.m. PT). The weekend wraps up with a game vs. No. 3 Stanford (12:20 p.m., 9:20 a.m. PT) on Sunday.
3: There are only three players in Princeton history to collect 140 career assists in Ryan Wilson '18 (220), Matt Payne '18 (148) and now Keller Maloney (146). Maloney averaged 38 helpers through his first three seasons and is already up to 36 in 2022, which leads the team.
5: Princeton has secured six wins this season over ranked opponents. The Tigers have defeated No. 17 Fordham, No. 19 Brown, No. 11 Harvard, No. 20 St. Francis-Brooklyn, No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, and No. 12 Loyola Marymount.
6: Roko Pozaric was named NWPC Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career this week. He's already secured that weekly honor three times this season, adding 38 goals and 20 assists this season
