O'Leary Scores Twice as Princeton Gets Past Brown
November 04, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Rookie Emerson O'Leary scored a pair of goals to help Princeton to a 3-2 win at Brown Friday night in the Tigers' first road game of the ECAC Hockey season.
O'Leary is the third rookie in the last two seasons to have a two-goal game, as current sophomores Sarah Paul (vs. Rensselaer, Nov. 5, 2021) and Dominique Cormier (vs. Cornell, Jan. 28, 2022) each had a two-goal game last season.
O'Leary's first goal came with less than five minutes to go in the first period when she took a loose puck from behind the net, skated in front, wheeled around and fired it home.
The 1-0 Tiger lead continued into the second period, and Sarah Fillier added to it with seven-plus minutes gone in the frame with her second goal of the season and 46th of her career, taking a pass forward from Mariah Keopple at the blue line and deflecting it in from the slot.
Brown got on the board three minutes later with an Anna Hurd goal, but three minutes after that, O'Leary struck again when Mia Coene sent a puck back from behind the net for O'Leary to pounce on from between the circles.
Brown cut it back to a one-goal game with an Olivia Williamson goal less than three minutes into the third, and Princeton kept the Bears there the rest of the way to finish off the 3-2 win.
Sophomore netminder Jennifer Olnowich had 15 saves in the win.
Ranked No. 14 in the DCU/USCHO.com poll and No. 13 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, Princeton will head to Yale, ranked No. 8 in both, for a Saturday 3 p.m. start in New Haven.
