No. 5 Princeton to Open Potter Cup Friday Against No. 4 Yale
February 15, 2022 | Men's Squash
The quest for the Collegiate Squash Association national title will begin on Friday at 2 p.m. for the No. 5-ranked Princeton men's squash team, which will meet No. 4 Yale in a Potter Cup quarterfinal at Penn.
Princeton will meet either No. 1 Penn or No. 8 Drexel on Saturday at 11 a.m. (if consolation) or 3 p.m. (if semifinal), and then meet one of No. 2 Harvard, No. 3 Trinity, No. 6 Columbia or No. 7 Virginia on Sunday in either a consolation (8:30 or 11:30 a.m.), championship (12 p.m.) or third-place (2:30 p.m.) match.
Princeton finished fourth in 2020, the last Potter Cup tournament held. Princeton has competed in the Potter Cup draw annually since 2018 and won the Potter Cup title last in 2012, which was also the last year Princeton made the Potter Cup final.
During the 2021-22 season, Princeton faced all seven of the other Potter Cup teams in dual matches, getting wins over Columbia, Virginia and Drexel while each of the top four seeds won head-to-head against Princeton, either by scores of 5-4 or 6-3. The match against quarterfinal opponent Yale was one of those 6-3 matches, on Jan. 22 in New Haven.
