PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton University men's volleyball assistant coach Pat Shawaryn will be moving on to a new position, where he will serve as assistant coach of the Penn State men's volleyball team.
"Pat Shawaryn has been at the center of every accomplishment Princeton Volleyball has had in the last six years," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "As the recruiting coordinator for Men's volleyball Pat helped recruit more fab 50/top recruits than our program had ever seen. Pat's hard work scouting and charting all opponents and running the team's block and defense culminated in 2019 when Pat helped guide the Princeton Men to our second EIVA championship in program history. Above being an incredible coach, Pat has been a dear and loyal friend. So, while we are incredibly saddened to lose a great Tiger, we are also extremely proud and happy for Pat to embark on this extremely exciting opportunity at Penn State. We love you Pat. Thank you for all you have done for Princeton Volleyball and for me personally. You will be missed but never forgotten. We'll see you on the other side of the net soon enough."
Along with guiding the Tigers to the 2019 EIVA Championship, Shawaryn also helped the Tigers earn their first victory at the NCAA Tournament, and their highest ranking in school history of No. 10 in the 2020 AVCA Preseason Poll.
Shawaryn was on staff for the Tigers' defeat win over UCLA in 2020, which was the first time Princeton had beaten the Bruins in program history. He helped develop George Huhmann '20, who in 2019 became Princeton's first EIVA Player of the Year.
During Shawaryn's tenure, Tigers have been honored as All-Americans three times, and All-EIVA 16 times.
Shawaryn's efforts have helped push Princeton Volleyball to new heights, and he is wished well in his future role at Penn State.
