Peters Named Ivy League Player Of The Week; Tigers Move Way Up In Polls
March 07, 2022 | Men's Lacrosse
Erik Peters did as much as anyone last week to turn this coming Saturday's Princeton-Rutgers game into a Top 10 matchup.
Peters made 16 saves, including 10 in the second half and six in the fourth quarter, at then-No. 3 Georgetown in a 16-8 Princeton win this past Saturday. The performance earned Peters Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
In addition, the win vaulted Princeton from 18th last week into the Top 10 this week. The Tigers are now ranked seventh by both the coaches (USILA) and media (Inside Lacrosse) and fifth by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Up next is a game at home against Rutgers Saturday (1 pm face-off) in what is now the second straight game for the Tigers against the No. 3 team in the country.
The Tigers move up the national rankings mirrors what happened two years ago, when Princeton went from unranked in the preseason into the Top 10 by early March. Princeton is hardly the only ranked Ivy League team, as five of the league's seven teams are in the USILA Top 20, with No. 4 Cornell and No. 6 Penn also in the Top 10.

As for Peters, his performance against Georgetown was his second-straight huge effort against a Top 3 team. A week earlier, Peters made a career-high 19 saves in a loss at No. 1 Maryland, giving him 35 saves in his last two games. Peters is now sixth in Division I with a .615 save percentage.Peters with his 16th closes out Georgetown. Final score: Princeton 10, Georgetown 8. pic.twitter.com/RjrYyZjCny
