Sears Tallies Eight Points As No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten In Ivy Play
April 16, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
PRINCETON – No. 12 Princeton quickly brushed aside a midweek loss to No. 8 Maryland, responding as championship-caliber teams do with a 17-5 win over Dartmouth.
With the victory, the Tigers (8-3 overall) stay unbeaten in the Ivy League (3-0) while Dartmouth falls to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in Ivy play. Princeton is one of two unbeaten teams remaining inside Ivy League play, the other being Yale who is 5-0 in Ancient Eight games. The Tigers have only Ivy games remaining, four consecutive League games will end the regular season – including a meeting with Yale at Sherrerd Field on April 30.
Kyla Sears was all over the field, finishing with eight points – including six assists which ties the program's single-game high – and adding six ground balls to go with three caused turnovers.
All total, 11 different Princeton players recorded at least one point – nine had at multi-point games.
Notes To Know
For the second game in a row, Princeton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers learned from Wednesday night where Maryland rallied for the win, keeping the Big Green at bay the rest of the way and securing a third Ivy win in 2022.
Kate Mulham opened the scoring for the second consecutive game, scoring 1:05 in via a free position goal. Grace Tauckus followed at the 4:28 mark, taking a Kyla Sears pass and finishing in close. Lillian Stout would make it a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter, depositing an Ellie Mueller pass.
The Big Green would score the next two, but Kyla Sears connected on a free position with 28 seconds left in the first quarter to start what would be a four-goal run to build a 7-2 lead.
The highlight goal in that run came from Mulham. After a Dartmouth shot banged off the post, Kyla Sears picked up the ground ball in the midfield and scampered the length of the field before dishing to Mulham who fired home on the run before crashing to the turf to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead.
Princeton would net the final two goals of the half, including Mulham's third of the game with 2.8 seconds remaining to take a 9-3 lead to the break.
The Tigers left no doubt in the second half, outscoring the Big Green by an 8-2 margin – including a shutout in the third quarter. The Tigers netted the only four goals of the third period, creating what was a 6-0 run to end any thoughts of a Dartmouth rally.
Lucie Gildehaus scored twice in the third period, working nicely to break down the Big Green's zone defense with back-to-back goals.
After a Dartmouth score to open the fourth, Hamburger responded with a goal of her own to start a 4-0 Princeton run as the Tigers pulled further away.
The Tigers are back home on April 20, hosting Penn in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU at 5 p.m.
