Women's Lacrosse Clinches Ivy Tournament Spot With 11-9 Win At Brown

Princeton (8-6, 4-2 Ivy) led the entire way in Providence, picking up an 11-9 win over Brown (7-6, 3-3 Ivy) to secure another trip to the Ivy League Tournament to be held at Yale May 1-3.Â
Ella Sloan, Maggie Molnar and Meg Morrisroe each had two goals for Princeton while Molnar and Morrisroe won five draws and Sloan won four.
After dishing an assist to Maggie Molnar to record her 100th career assist to open the scoring 3:27 into the game, MacDonald found the back of the net herself 0:46 later to give Princeton a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, MacDonald netted a free position goal and the Tigers were in front, 3-0.
Brown countered with the next three to tie the game with 5:24 to play in the first quarter, but MacDonald again found Molnar for a goal with 4:40 to play that gave the Tigers. 4-3 lead. She would finish the scoring for the first quarter with a strong drive to goal with 1:11 to play in the opening quarter.
The second quarter was low-scoring, with Brown netting two and the Tigers just one. A free position for the Bears made it a 5-4 game just 0:53 into the second period, but Meg Morrisroe would counter with a solo dodge from behind the goal just 0:23 later to regain a two-goal Princeton lead.
Neither team would score for the next 11:36 before Brown's Caroline Nozzolillo scored with 2:08 to play in the opening half to send the game to the break in favor of the Tigers, 6-5.
The defensive battle continued into the third quarter as both teams held each other off the scoreboard for the opening 12:01 of the second half before Merrill Watson scored for Princeton off a slick pass from Jami MacDonald. That goal ended a 25:45 run without a goal scored for the Tigers.
Brown scored three of the next four to get to within one with 7:26 to play, but Meg Morrisroe scored quickly to regain a two-goal lead for Princeton with 6:51 to play.
Princeton dialed up swarming defense in the final three minutes, with four defenders converging on Riley Peterson and forcing her to pass off from her dodge to behind the net where Amelia Hughes picked off the ensuing centering pass to send the Tigers down in transition where Ella Sloan would draw a free position and score with 1:05 to go for a three-goal Princeton lead.
The Tigers conclude the regular season by hosting Dartmouth on Senior Day on April 25 with a 12 p.m. opening draw.

The Tigers will be the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 seed Penn. Yale has secured at least a share of the Ivy League championship and will be the No. 1 seed. Jami MacDonald followed up her 10-point effort on Wednesday with another seven against the Bears, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
