No. 4 Seed Men's Volleyball Advances to EIVA Tournament Semifinals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. – The No. 4 seed Princeton University men's volleyball team advanced to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tournament semifinals after taking down No. 5 seed St. Francis University (Pa.), 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) Wednesday night inside Rec Hall.
Sophomore James Hartley led the match in kills with 12, and sophomore Ben Harrington had a match-high two service aces, a category where he currently ranks third in the nation. Senior Joe Kelly led the Tigers in assists with 21, digs with seven, and blocks with two. Sophomore Henry Wedbush also tied for the team-high in blocks with two.
It was the Red Flash who took the early advantage in a tight opening set, taking a 13-12 lead. Princeton bounced back with a 3-0 run, that featured a kill by Hartley along with a pair of SFU attacking errors, to jump ahead 15-13. Saint Francis knotted the score at 19-19, but the Tigers gained some momentum thanks to another 3-0 run, this time sparked by a double block from Hartley and junior Brady Wedbush, to take set point, 24-20. A sophomore Gavin Leising kill sealed the set for the Tigers, 25-21.
A kill by Hartley led off a 3-0 Princeton run to open the second set, as the Tigers took control early. A 3-0 run by SFU tied it up at 7-7, then the Red Flash would take the lead at 17-16. Princeton responded with a 4-0 run, taking a 20-17 lead after another Hartley kill. A service ace by Harrington gave Princeton set point at 24-21, then a kill by Hartley gave the Tigers the 25-21 triumph.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle, with the score being tied at 12-12. A Red Flash service error followed by a kill by Hartley saw the Tigers take a slight advantage, 15-13, but SFU would later tie it up at 21-21, following a 3-0 run. A kill by senior Parker Dixon halted Saint Francis' momentum, then the teams would trade points until back-to-back Harrington kills put the Tigers over the line, 25-23 in the set, and 3-0 in the match.
