Pederson Named Third-Team All-American; Five Tigers Honored In All

Beau Pederson, much like the Princeton men's lacrosse team for which he plays, came into the season somewhat unheralded. Also like his team, as Memorial Day weekend has arrived, he is finally getting the recognition he deserved.

Pederson was named a USILA third-team All-American as a shortstick defensive midfielder after a season that has seen him have two goals, three assists, eight caused turnovers, 27 ground balls and an unknown total of dodging opponents stopped in their tracks. Pederson was one of five Princeton players honored by the USILA, along with honorable mention selections Chris Brown on attack, Sam English and Jake Stevens in the midfield and George Baughan on defense.

Brown is Princeton's leading scorer with 71 points on 30 goals and 41 assists, making him the second Princeton player ever to have a season with at least 30 goals and 40 assists. English, a converted defensive midfielder, has 30 goals and 17 assists this year, including 11 goals in his last three games. Stevens, who plays offensive midfield and on the face-off wings, has 22 goals and 64 ground balls, making him one of two Princeton players in the last 26 years to reach those numbers. Baughan has at least one caused turnover in every game he has played this season.

Princeton, unranked in the preseason, will play Maryland Saturday in the NCAA semifinals at 2:30 in West Hartford, Conn., after Rutgers and Cornell play the first semifinal at noon.
