Princeton Men Earn Fifth Seed, Boston University Rematch, As Six Ivies Reach NCAA Field

Back on April 9, when Princeton played Boston University, the game had the intense feel of an NCAA tournament game. The rematch will be exactly that.

Princeton is back in the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament as the No. 5 seed, and the Tigers will host Boston University in the opening round Saturday at noon on Sherrerd Field.

Princeton defeated BU 12-7 in the regular season game back in early April in what was the first meeting every between the two. Now they'll play for the second time in little more than a month. For both teams, this is uncharted territory, as the Tigers are making their first NCAA appearance in 10 years and the Terriers, who won the Patriot League tournament, are in for the first time in program history.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to be playing in the NCAA tournament," says Princeton head coach Matt Madalon. "This is what we've been working for since the fall, and now it's here. We know the challenge BU brings. It's going to be a great game, and we're ready to get to work."

Princeton is one of six Ivy League schools who made the field of 18 teams, including five of whom were seeded and who are at home this weekend. Princeton also has more wins over seeded teams — four, having beaten No. 2 Georgetown, No. 3 Penn, No. 6 Rutgers and No. 8 Brown – than any other team in the field.

Boston University enters the game at 12-4 overall after defeating Lehigh 13-12 in overtime and Army 14-10 in the Patriot League tournament this past weekend. Princeton is 9-4 overall.

The winner of the Princeton-BU game will play the winner of the Yale-St. Joe's game in the quarterfinals at Hofstra on Saturday, May 21.
