Princeton Announces Men's Lacrosse Team Awards
June 16, 2022 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men’s lacrosse team awards for 2022 have been announced. These four awards are the highest program honors given annually to Princeton’s players.
This year’s four winners all played crucial roles in helping the Tigers return to the NCAA tournament and then advance back to Championship Weekend before falling to eventual champion Maryland. Princeton finished the season ranked third in every major poll.
“We played as a team all season,” says head coach Matt Madalon. “As such, it’s very difficult to separate out any individuals for these honors, since every member of our team is so important to our success. At the same time, these awards are hugely important, not only to recognize excellence on this year’s team but also to have these young men serve as a reminder of the great history of the program that is represented in these awards.”
The four winners are:

Chris Brown, Higginbotham Award - Awarded annually to that member of the Princeton varsity lacrosse team who by outstanding play, distinguished sportsmanship and gentlemanly influence has best exemplified the qualities of John Edwards Higginbotham '39, captain of the varsity lacrosse team.
Chris Brown led Princeton in scoring with 31 goals and 41 assists to become only the second Princeton player ever to have at least 30 goals and 40 assists in a season. He also finished his career 10th all-time at Princeton in points with 179 and tied for 13th in goals with 101. Brown was a first-team All-Ivy League selection and an honorable mention USILA All-American.

Luke Crimmins, Howard Trophy - In honor of Albert F. Howard '25. Awarded annually to that senior member of the Princeton varsity lacrosse team who has shown the greatest improvement in lacrosse during his undergraduate years at Princeton.
Luke Crimmins went from being a consistent scoring threat on the offensive midfield unit for his first three seasons to becoming a dominant shortstick defensive midfielder as a senior. Moved to his new position just before the start of the season, Crimmins responded with a monster senior year, finishing with six goals, eight caused turnovers and 26 ground balls.

Jamie Atkinson, Klurfeld Award - Presented annually in memory of Scott P. Klurfeld '74. To a player chosen by his teammates who embodies the qualities of perseverance, hard work, team spirit and dedication to Lacrosse and to Princeton, which were exemplified by Scott P. Klurfeld '74.
Jamie Atkinson, one of the Tiger captains, battled through an injury suffered in a preseason scrimmage that slowed the start of his senior year and cost him considerable playing time through the year. He nevertheless returned to become a key member of the second offensive midfield unit, scoring four goals, including one against Maryland in the NCAA semifinals. In addition, he was a constant positive force during practices and games, both during his injury and after he returned to the lineup.

George Baughan, John T. Schroeder Award - Awarded annually to a member of the Men's Lacrosse Team who through the embodiment of character and selfless devotion to the team has had the greatest impact on the success of Princeton Men's Lacrosse.
George Baughan was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League and honorable mention All-American defenseman who had at least one caused turnover in every game this season and who was the leader of a defense that allowed 28 goals in three NCAA tournament games. His play on the field was characterized by his intensity, grit and determination, and he valued Princeton men’s lacrosse over any individual honors he may have received.
