Women’s Volleyball Triumphs 3-1 Over Seton Hall

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team closed out the Sacred Heart Tournament on a high note, triumphing 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-16, 25-23) over Seton Hall Sunday afternoon at the Pitt Center.
Freshman Valerie Nutakor continued her outstanding weekend, leading with match with 17 kills with a .341 hitting percentage. Senior Lindsey Kelly finished with a double-double, tallying a match-high 49 assists along with 20 digs. Freshman Lucia Scalamandre compiled a match-high six blocks, while senior Cameron Dames had a match-high 25 digs.
The first set began as a back-and-forth battle, but a 3-0 run led off by a senior Avery Luoma and Scalamandre double block gave the Tigers a 12-10 lead. Kills by sophomore Nicole Dankinova and Luoma put Princeton ahead, 20-18, but a 3-0 Pirate run saw Seton Hall jump ahead, 21-20. Another Luoma kill sparked a 3-0 Princeton run, and the Tigers went on to win the opening set, 25-22.
Little separated the Tigers the Pirates in the second set, until a 3-0 run saw Seton Hall go up 13-10. A service ace freshman Ella Bunde helped keep it close at 15-13, but a pair of 3-0 runs saw the Pirates gain a 22-17 advantage. From there, they held on to win the set, 25-19.
The Tigers got off to an impressive start in the third set, with a pair of 3-0 runs putting the Tigers ahead 9-4. A kill by Nutakor sparked a 4-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 16-9, then another Nutakor kill led off a 5-0 run, from which Princeton would close out the set on, prevailing 25-16.
It was the Pirates who took the upper hand early in the fourth set, going up 8-4. A 6-1 Princeton run saw the Tigers tie the score at 14-14, following a double block by junior Kathleen Bishop and Scalamandre. The Pirates then jumped out to a 22-18 lead, but a Nutakor kill sparked a 5-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 23-22, then go on win the set, 25-23, following kills by Nutakor and Bishop, along with the match, 3-1.
