Princeton Takes Home Invite Opener over Wagner, 13-10
September 09, 2022 | Men's Water Polo
Keller Maloney had a hat trick as eight Tigers split the scoring in a 13-10 win for No. 10 Princeton over Wagner on Friday night as Princeton opened its home invitational at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton will face Bucknell on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Santa Clara at 4:45 p.m. as the event continues.
Vladan Mitrovic, Joan Coloma and Roko Pozaric had two goals each while Yurian Quinones, Isaac Rotenberg, Ryan Neapole and George Caras had one apiece.
Mitrovic answered an early Wagner goal with his two goals back-to-back to put Princeton up in 2-1 in the opening quarter, and over the first three quarters, Princeton gained four two-goal leads only to see Wagner close the gap each time.
A four-goal run bridging the third and fourth quarters turned out to be the decisive stretch. Started with Maloney's third goal to give Princeton an 8-7 lead in the third, the advantage grew to 11-7 in the fourth with six-plus minutes to go after Rotenberg, Pozaric and Neapole each added a goal. Princeton and Wagner traded goals the rest of the way as the Seahawks were never closer than three over that stretch.
