Princeton Announces 2024 Men's Lacrosse Schedule
November 16, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
2024 PRINCETON MEN'S LACROSSE SCHEDULE (times TBA)
MEN'S LACROSSE TICKET PAGE
Matt Madalon always talks about giving his team two ways to make the NCAA tournament. The 2024 season will be no different.
After using the at-large route in 2022 en route to the Final Four and the automatic bid route in 2023, the 2024 schedule will give again Madalon's Tigers their two chances alright. The first will be through a brutal non-league schedule, and that will be followed by an equally brutal Ivy League schedule. The chance for a big win will be there every week.
With the new season will come a few new wrinkles for Princeton's schedule. The order of the Ivy League games will be different for the first time since 2011, and Princeton will open its league season with Cornell for the second time ever and first since 1964. In addition, Princeton has replaced Georgetown and Syracuse with an early March Friday-Sunday trip to North Carolina and Duke (Penn will make the same trip and play Duke and then UNC), and, for the first time in memory, the Tigers will have a weekend in April with no game.
The season will begin with a Feb. 17 game at Monmouth, which will be followed by the home opener against Manhattan on Tuesday, Feb. 20. After that, Princeton will be on the road for four straight games, first at Maryland (Feb. 24) and then with the trip to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels on Friday (March 1) and Duke Sunday (March 3). The match for the Meistrell Cup will be held at Rutgers the following Sunday, March 10, before the Ivy schedule opens at home against Cornell (March 16).
The new order for the Ivy schedule will be: Cornell home, at Harvard (March 23), Dartmouth at home (March 30), at Brown (April 13), home against Penn (April 20) and at Yale (April 27). There is also a non-league game against Lehigh at home on Tuesday, April 2, with no game for 11 days after that.
Princeton returns two starters on attack, two starters on close defense, the starting goalie, all four of its face-off specialists, six of the seven shortstick defensive midfielders and the three top longstick midfielders. Among the returnees are goalie Michael Gianforcaro, the MVP of Princeton's Ivy League tournament championship last spring, and Coulter Mackesy, who set the school single-season record with 55 goals in 2023.
